Coming up roses...

Lady Green Garden Centre at Ince Blundell are celebrating following the recent judging of their outdoor plant areas in the autumn Ruxley Rose awards.

They were named regional winners of the coveted Ruxley Rose title of ‘Best Outdoor Plant Area 2012’

The Ruxley Rose award is run by the Garden Centre Association and rewards outstanding plant area displays. Judges look for creativity, inspiration and individuality in plant displays.

Tracy Hall, garden centre manager at Lady Green commented ‘Here at Lady Green we strive constantly to provide the highest quality plants combined with excellent customer service from an expert team.

We enjoy the challenge of displaying our plants in unique and creative ways. To be able to put both a smile on a face or an idea into a customer’s mind makes it all worthwhile.’

Garden Releaf Day

Our garden centres supported Garden Releaf Day on the 13th March, this was a nationwide event to raise funds for Greenfingers, the garden centre industry charity that creates gardens for childrens hospices. We were delighted to raise a grand total of £1862.14 . A big thank you to all our customers who supported this worthy cause.

Beverley Garden Centre joins the Group

We are pleased to announce the leasehold acquisition of Beverley Garden Centre, at Woodmansey, Hull, Humberside.

The acquisition increases the number of centres within the Group to 26.

Commenting on the acquisition, Bob Hewitt, Chief Executive said 'We are very pleased to acquire Beverley Garden Centre and are excited about the prospects for the future. It is a relatively new, purpose built centre in a good location and we have secured a much improved planning consent regarding the product range. The centre ceased trading at Christmas following a ‘closing down’ sale by The Garden Centre Group and will be fully refurbished prior to re-launch at the beginning of March. We look forward to welcoming all customers back to the garden centre.

This is an exciting time for the company. In addition to the acquisition of Beverley we are currently progressing substantial redevelopment and refurbishment projects at High Legh and Inverness, both of which will be completed prior to spring trading. This follows the successful redevelopment of Northallerton which was completed in 2011 and is in line with our on-going strategic aim to invest and upgrade key centres in the current estate. Finally the garden centre at Wilmslow will be rebuilt following the fire in 2011. We anticipate that the new centre will open late summer 2012.’

Top service at Weaver Vale Garden Centre

Supplier of the Year 2011

Solus Garden and Leisure has won the Klondyke Group Ltd Dry Goods Supplier award for 2011.

The award, which was presented by the garden centre group at this year’s Glee Exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham, recognises the contribution of outstanding suppliers to the 25 Klondyke/Strikes outlets across England, Scotland and Wales.

The Greatest Merchandising Team 2011

Our fabulous garden centre team at Weaver Vale Garden Centre found themselves the winners of the ‘The Greatest Merchandising Team 2011 Live' which took place at this year’s Glee show.

Garden Centre manager Mike Sharples and staff members Gill Nile, Carole Gowans and Maureen Eves were challenged with turning a 2 metre squared space and all within just 2 and a half hours, into a ‘Gardener’s Gift Ideas’ display.

Diarmuid Gavin visits Strikes Garden Centres

Fresh from winning gold at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Diarmuid Gavin has been the special guest of Strikes Garden Centres.

Diarmuid’s first visit was to Strikes Garden Centre at Northallerton on Saturday 4th June, following the completion of the centres redevelopment programme. This spring has seen the centre developed to offer a new Topiary Coffee Shop and Restaurant, new Craft Shop, Clothing Shop and covered outdoor plant area.
